Submissions
River Horse is a small publisher. We don’t publish very many books. The books we do publish have to be a great fit for our mission, values, and approach. We are collaborative and hands-on. We always have the child in mind. We don’t compromise when it comes to the quality of the books we publish. Our goal is simple: to make books that make readers. We do that by making books kids love.
We publish only children’s books, and we are interested in both fiction and nonfiction. We like books that are fun, playful, and exciting. We love books that make kids laugh, and we love stories that make kids feel confident and empowered.
Among the first things we consider when reviewing a submission: Will someone want to buy it and why? We don’t just want to produce books; we want kids to read them. Tell us why people will want to buy your book, what you can do to get the word out about it, and, most importantly, why kids will love it.
Authors: Send a brief summary of your book and tell us why you think it is a good fit for River Horse. We’d love to know a little something about you, too. Please include a short bio and be sure to tell us where you’re located (both hometown and current area of residence are important in book promotion). In addition, send the manuscript, your email address, and any social media handles or websites you’d like to share. Please title your submission email: Submission: (Book Title)
Illustrators: We love receiving art in our inbox! Please send two or three representative pieces (mind the file size) and a link to your portfolio or website. Include a short bio and be sure to tell us where you’re located (both hometown and area of residence are important in book promotion). Please title your submission email: Illustrator: (your name)
Please be patient with us while we consider your work. We will try to respond promptly, but please understand we receive many submissions.
